Contact lenses can be a great addition to your lifestyle! Whether they’re for playing sports, changing up your look, or just for a break from glasses, the team at Garibaldi Eye Care is here to help! Unsure if you want to go with contact lenses? Here are some tips on how to select the right lens for you:
How to Choose the Correct Contact Lenses
First, the most important part of your contact lens is the prescription. You need to get the right prescription for your contact lenses. Your optometrist will help you with this.
- After you know what your prescription is, you need to select a type of contact lens that fits your lifestyle. Some of the examples include:
- Dailies
- By far the most hygienic and convenient of the contact lens modalities. If there’s any doubt in your mind regarding your ability to care for your contact lenses than these are the ones for you. These are contacts worn once only and then disposed of. Great for the occasional lens wearer as well for sporting activities and nights out!
- Bi-Weekly/Monthlies
- Contact lenses also come in monthly and biweekly forms. These lenses are reused over the course of 2-4 weeks (depending on the brand), after which they are replaced. Over using or misusing any type of contact lens increases the risk of infection in the eye by over 10 times!
- Dailies
- Gas permeable contacts are specialty hard contact lenses. These are generally used for specific ocular conditions such as keratoconus.
- As you get older, everyone develops a condition known as presbyopia- this comes with an inability to read things at close distances. Luckily, bifocal/ multifocal contact lenses exist which can help boost your near vision!
- Finally, for a fun time, you may also want to have a pair of colored contact lenses to alter the appearance of your natural eye colour or as part of a funky halloween costume. These contact lenses absolutely must be ordered under the supervision of your friendly Squamish Optometrists as lenses of this type have a high rate of misuse and resultant infections.
